A while back, I made a post on the “LOTR MMO”, that was all that I knew about it, that some guys saw the success of WoW and decided to do the same with The Lord of the Rings. I forgot about the game until recently, I heard through the grapevine that the a Beta was in progress for The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadow of Angmar, so I decided to sign up. I got my CD-KEY and proceeded to download the 3.8 GB file.
On today April 6th, I went along and started the journey…
This i’snt a review, as I haven’t reach anywhere far in the game, so this are my initial thoughts:
- Graphics Wise : The cut scenes looks quite good, a small step below WoW ( I am going to use WoW as the base, as it was my first real MMO
- Sound Wise : Its also delivers here, at the start your town is being attacked, and it feel and sounds like the Orcs and Goblins are just a stone throw away from you.
- Gameplay Wise: This is where I was a little disappointed, bear in mind I havent reach far they, so i’m sure this improves
The Character creation is simple and clean, in comparison to WoW is bit more in detail, you can get your Legolas clone to look just like you, your mom and maybe even Legolas
One thing about the starting which I like was that, it’s exciting, unlike the starting of WoW in which you run up and down and collect boar meat, in LOTR: SA you hear the Goblins and Orc outside bashing in. It adds to the gameplay ( even though nothing really happens)
This was my first thougts of the LOTR MMO, and I will continue playing and be back with a more in depth review in due time.
The Beta is open until the the 24th of April. Click here to jump in…

[…] If you don’t know what LORTO is all about then I suggest you read Internet Gamers.org’s post on their time with the game. […]
[…] In contrast to my beta review of LOTR: Shadow Of Angmar , Q over at The1Qwerty got a hands on review of World in Conflict after attending the G03 Expo in Australia. “The graphics in WiC are absolutely amazing, words cannot describe how awesome they really are, and its only in pre-alpha so who knows how far they will go. One of the things I did notice was lacking in the pre-alpha is that when the tanks go over the bridge you will see in my video, they are not reflected on the water. Thats about the only criticism I have to give on the game though.” […]
